Did You Know that it is Not Legal to fish or catch Great White Sharks in California….
….because they have been protected by state regulations since January 1, 1994? Great White Sharks in California are also protected by federal regulations and must be immediately released if caught accidentally.
Per these regulations, it is illegal to catch, pursue, hunt, capture, or kill a Great White Shark. This also includes prohibiting anyone from intentionally attracting these sharks with bait or other methods.
The informed participation of fishermen is crucial to protecting shark populations.
